I think everyone is entitled to know that BellSouth is out to change the tariff with as little warning or notice to either the PSC or the public as possible. URL: http://www.intergate.net/uhtml/rcostner/efg/telecom/telecom.htm The impact on the Internet community will be the gravest. As a Network Service Provider to major companies in the United States, I think the outcome will be catestrophic. Most companies utilize ISDN as a less expensive alternative to Frame Relay and Point-to-Point services, and the bottom line is that BellSouth (within weeks of announcing they are entering the ISP business) are also in the clutches of putting the small business in a position of having to pay more for the same or less service. I am asking everyone, whether you have an ISDN circuit or not, to contact the Public Service Commission of Georgia and The Consumers' utility Council and voice STRONG opposition to this new tariff. Contacts: PSC-Georgia - (404) 656.4501 - Ms. Terri Lyndall Consumers' Council - (404) 656.3982 - Ms. Nancy Gibson Although email addresses are available, they are not taken as seriously (yet) as a voice telephone call. Please take the time out of your schedules to call BOTH OFFICES and inform them of your opposition to this new tariff. WHY: Quite simply BellSouth is claiming that the delivery of ISDN services was not intended to be used for connectivity of services on a 24x7 basis. Why does Tennessee (the only state not affected by this new tariff increase) not have an increase in price? Are there no ISP's in Tennessee? Do people not use ISDN in Tennessee as they do in Georiga, Alabama, Kentuky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida and Louisianna? No. Quite simply, the PSC is strong and wouldn't allow BellSouth to enter such a tariff change. Not only that, the residential ISDN price is about 1/2 of that of Georgia. Go figure? PLEASE: Stand up and be counted. We must inform everyone we can to voice their opinion to the PSC and Consumers' Utility Council. They need to hear your voice.
