The Electronic Frontiers Forums is a series of panels devoted to online
technology, politics, and culture. We cover pressing issues in online
media, including freedom of speech, privacy online, governance and
enforcement, new trends in technology, and the latest trends in online
culture. Please join us for our next presentation at
DragonCon.

The Future of Peer to Peer The Supreme Court ruling against Grokster on Monday, June 27th, left a cloud of uncertainty around many legitimate uses for peer to peer. This decision, despite being narrowly drawn, could have substantial negative impact on the technology industry by creating legal uncertainty around any software project where content could be shared. 18 USC 2257: New Regulations Threaten Free Speech A law designed to protect minors from exploitation by the adult entertainment business was dramatically expanded for Internet sites by the Department of Justice in a memo in the Federal Register. Sweeping new record keeping requirements place a heavy burden on any web site with adult content and may threaten freedom of speech for bloggers and web cam girls.
